Christmas at Eden 2024

Posted on 30th December, 2024

This afternoon, i paid my annual visit to the Eden Project for their Christmas Lights event. I usually try and go in the lead up to December 25th in an attempt to get into the festive spirit, but this year it didn't happen until a couple of days before New Year. It was still amazing, and I am pleased that I didn't miss it altogether.

Eden gave me a bonus this year allowing me to take a guest for free with my Local's Pass. This was very welcome, and enabled me to take my partner along for a post Christmas treat.

We booked the 3.30 slot for admission, enabling us to arrive in daylight and walk around the outer terraces before darkness fell. We had a pasta meal in the cafe around 5pm, so it was almost dark when we walked into the tropical biome. The atmosphere in here was lovely, the stunning light sequences highlighted by the music as you walked around.

The Mediterranean biome had a different theme. It wasn't as dark in here, and the main focus was a circular pillar of tubular lights choreographed to move and change colour with the music. This was a variety of Christmas songs. The lights were suspended from the highest point in the biome, and attracted a large crowd of people just happy to watch the show and enjoy the upbeat tunes.

The ice rink looked really busy when we walked past, and all the food stations were doing well. The place was full of families enjoying themselves after the festivities of the week before.

Eden's Christmas lights run from November 15th 2024 until January 5th 2025. The lights are not on every night during this period, but predominantly Fri-Sun until the school term ends and more weekdays offer later opening times. Please check the Eden Project for more details.
