About Me

I grew up and lived in Stratford upon Avon. I worked in accounts offices until 1997, but felt I needed a change of direction. I had always loved to sew, so enrolled on a Foundation course in creative interior crafts at Leamington college. I went on to complete levels 1 and 2 in City and Guilds Soft Furnishings as well as level 1 in Patchwork and Quilting. I then combined my accounts work with making soft furnishings for clients' homes.

I opened a shop on Etsy in 2013, www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Cushionstyle selling handmade cushion covers. When we moved to Cornwall in 2015, I was able to expand the shop and cushion designs available, and now plan to make other hand sewn items in addition to the cushion covers. And so, the new name and a new website, SewCornish.

My choice of fabrics and prints is influenced by the Cornish coast and countryside. You will find plenty of seaside and nautical prints as well as wildlife and fauna designs. I am always happy to make up bespoke items, different shapes and sizes, or items made in a specific fabric which is currently available and I can easily buy in. Please use the message form on the Contact Me page, or e-mail me at Helen@SewCornish.co.uk.
