I try to go back to Stratford upon Avon to see family and friends a few times a year, and this week is one of those occasions. A visit to see one of the family got cancelled at short notice, so I took my good friend out for the day instead. We decided on Upton House, as neither of us has been there in a long time and it's only a short distance from Stratford.
Only part of the interior of the house open to the public, and these rooms are full of porcelain and china pieces. We had a lovely browse around, and chatted to the volunteers who are very knowledgable about the history of the house and the people who live(d) here.
We made the most of the day by eating our lunch outside in the warm sunshine. I had the scone of the month, cheese and ale, which was very tasty. We then walked this off with a stroll around the gardens, and enjoyed watching the ducklings and Little Grebe chicks on the lake at the bottom of the garden. We almost gave the sunken garden a miss as it didn't look very exciting, but had we done so, we would not have discovered the lovely area around the bog garden. Some paths were roped off where it looked as though some reseeding had been done, but it was still possible to walk around the whole area and look through the trees.
No visit to any National Trust property is complete without a visit to the shop, and after purchasing some chutney and a honey and ginger ice cream, we made our way back to the nearby car park and headed for home.

Upton House is about 12 miles from Stratford upon Avon and 7 miles from Banbury. It is very close to Edgehill where the famous battle took place. For more information about the property and visiting details, please go to Upton House.
